Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 at Long Beach in California. DuVernay learned to love the arts from her grandmother Denise. The aunt she had was a nurse, who did night shifts to ensure that she could dedicate her time to art literature and theatre. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay was taught by her that art can be a vehicle for activism. After graduating she attended the University of California Los Angeles where she earned certificates in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay started producing broadcast journalism at the age of an elementary school student. As an intern, she worked for CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being asked to look over the rubbish at the home of one on the jury. In the course of her work she was dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the public relations industry. DuVernay began her first position as a publicist in small production studios right out of school. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations. Apart from PR, the agency also created a variety of marketing and lifestyle platforms, such as Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
